heron has really been getting into our advent activities. several times a day she asks to pick a new message from the calendar. i think they mean alot to her (okay, all of us!) in the midst of some really rough days with her. these special activities that are mainly geared towards heron alone (and not shepherd) are providing josh & i with intentional, meaningful moments with our sweet little girl who has lately been expressing alot of jealousy towards her brother, & pushing the limits of obedience.
we've been reading tons of christmas storybooks, and having special times with heron after shepherd is asleep. times to drink hot cocoa and talk, decorate the tree, set up the nativity scene, bake cookies, sit in the dim light with joy in our hearts.
throughout the day she is bringing up the things we've been reading and talking about. tonight she saw a bright star in the sky and pointed, saying, "that's like the star the kings saw!" and the other day when we were in anthropologie, "buying a few little gifts," i told her, she replied, "oh! are we buying gifts for jesus?"
yes, heron. jesus says he wants a $300 sweater for christmas.
