(three weeks ago)
this is our pastor josh who opened up for (my) josh at his recent portland show in the alberta rose theatre. josh is also a preacher/musician who married a woman four years older than himself, has two kids, & whose favorite band is the innocence mission. that's just the beginning of the similarities between the two joshes. he just hung a giant deer head in the church foyer, & that was pretty much the last sign we needed to tell us we were at the right place ;)
(my) josh was accompanied on stage by jay kirkpatrick (his best friend from indiana), eric from blitzen trapper, liz from our church's worship team, and scott frantz (from eugene, who played on josh's most recent album). josh usually plays solo, but it was fun to see him with a backing band!

then the two of them headed up to whistler, bc, for a writing retreat in the snowy cabin of our friends, the johnsons (hosts of our mayne island trip this past summer)!
our trips to seattle to visit friends & family often feel too short, so while josh & jay were in whistler for four days, instead of returning to portland with the kids, i lingered around seattle. it was a great visit with the garrels family, the ramsdales, the billupses, & the vanderpools.
