cornerstone o'eight

the garrels three had a blast at cornerstone.  josh played a few songs on main stage for the festival's 25th anniversary, and also had a full set on the gallery stage.  there was no way heron & i were going to miss this, so at just 5 weeks old heron attended her first music festival.

josh's shows were beautiful.  he especially had fun at his gallery stage performance, where he was able to play a set mostly comprised of songs from the new album, accompanied by jay on dobro & melodica, jason on didjeridoo, scott on slide & electric guitar, & even brian grover from jpusa doing mongolian (tuvan) throat singing on "sisu".  josh was well-received, & even gained some new listeners through his main stage performance the night before.

after josh's main stage performance a mid-fifties man approached josh & said that the show gave him the chills, & the music affected him in a way that no music had in a long time.  this man turned out to be andy whitman of paste magazine, who later had this to say in his blog about josh:  

Josh Garrels, from Muncie, Indiana, impressed me to no end, and delivered the best sets of the festival as far as I was concerned. Josh has the Ben Harper soulful folkie vibe down, and his songs were amazing; full of poetic imagery and internal rhymes.

we loved catching up with some of our jpusa friends again, spending time with jason from the coast, & soaking up time with jay, jess, & kian kirkpatrick, and sam & kristie koch, before we move to north carolina.
