noodle night

it's hard to get an engaging photograph of kids zoned out on t.v...

but this has become one of the favorite traditions since moving to portland, so i have to document it.  our friend/neighbor jocelyn started hosting me, heron, & sheppy, plus our other friend/neighbor robin & her three kids, on friday nights for a special event:  noodle night!  kids & mamas alike look forward to noodle night all week long.  at 5:00 every friday we head over to jocelyn's where she has mac n cheese & oodles of sides set up in the living room, furniture covered with sheets & towels to protect from spills, & it's movie time!  usually she's made some yummy vegetarian dish for us mamas, we've brought some little dishes to share, & then she pours the wine.  the kids watch movies (& get to eat in front of the t.v.!), & the ladies get to sit down over wine together & catch up on each other's lives.

the frequency of this event has declined a bit since robin & jans & the kids moved to eugene :(  but this week we hosted it at our house.  pulled the t.v. out of our bedroom & set it up in the living room, covered the old couch with sheets, made mac n cheese, & quinoa chili + corn bread for the adults (josh joined us!).  & we were able to have delightful conversation over wine while the kids watched joaquin's current favorite "the pink panther".  a special treat for all of us!

(we miss you robin!  chicken wine isn't the same without you!)
