: it was enormous, with a raised suspension & super-size tires :
our lease was up, so we traded in our little honda fit that our family spills out of like circus clowns. we'd been bookmarking buses, trucks with airstreams, and RVs for the past year, planning to hit the road as a family for a year or so. so when we needed to find a replacement for the fit, and we'd decided the best route for family touring was a big diesel truck + a trailer (vintage airstream, or i was all for building this out of salvaged wood, though aerodynamic it is not...), it seemed like the time to move forward.
so we found the perfect truck at the honda dealership where we traded our little car in. and it felt right. but then we drove that big thing home, and all of the sudden realized we'd pretty much committed ourselves to a year of solid touring, packing up our portland things & saying goodbye. for at least a year. after all, this is the time to do it with our kids this young, right?
but. we changed our minds. sometimes josh & i have to fully move in a certain direction in order to realize the implications of that decision. once we bought the truck we realized: WE LIKE PORTLAND! we want to keep living here. we don't want to leave. & josh doesn't even like touring! we've been here almost two years after having moved every year or two of our married life. & it's time to settle down & build into friendships (or, if not "settle down", at least build a more solid foundation here that will provide a restful, friend-filled place to come home to when we do tour). occasional touring is now the plan. out of our portland home. and our new (to us) honda pilot! bye bye, f-250! it was fun while it lasted! maybe some other day?

wow, what a change of heart! i'm happy for your decision, but really how cool would it have been to be driving that lusby around the country??

i know, amanda. that lusby kept me up at night, dreaming of such a sweet road-home! the lower room would've had bunks for the kids, and josh & i could sleep in the loft... i was so serious about it (for about 48 hours) i contacted the tumbleweed homes guy & asked about the logistics of wheeling one of those things across the country for touring (rather than simply transporting it from the construction site to a permanent home spot, like most people do with those tiny houses). but no answer. & in the meantime, we decided to stay. ah, maybe next year? ;)
