heron is a big collector of things. on daily walks she picks up stones, flowers, pinecones, sticks, and leaves, and piles them into her un-used stroller seat while she walks (& i push this portable natural history museum). i currently have three huge ceramic bowls filled with water & camilia blossoms (above), gathered from beneath the tree, on my kitchen table--today's exhibit. oh, and a mason jar ant farm with some dill weed & fruity bunnies (ant food!) by the kitchen sink. i never really know what to do with all these things after she's had them around the house for a day or two. occasionally these little dainties end up in an art project, some end up in stone soup outside the next day, others end up on the mantle for a week before i sneak them back outside.
but today we collected with purpose--dinner!
i was on our friend
arian's blog the other day, & learned about fried dandelion flowers. heron was so excited to help me forage for the evening meal. we collected greens, too, but we'll use them another day. she helped me with every step of the process. such fun!
