the wurly's last gig

it's a rite of passage of sorts--selling vintage music gear to buy furniture.  this was the wurlitzer's last night in our home.  even though it's been in storage for three years, & we set it up only to take pictures of it, i got teary-eyed when it left our home.  we posted it on craigslist at 11:00 p.m. & got ten calls & emails within ten minutes of posting it.  

for the past year & a half here in our apartment in portland josh and i have had a totally quirky living room, & it's been rough because we love hospitality so much.  when we have guests over usually two people end up turning around backwards on the couch to talk with two other people sitting at the kitchen table, or we spend all evening sitting at the kitchen table, very sore bums by the end of the night :).  so when i got an unexpected windfall from a little press i used to be a part of (bellywater press), i decided that the money would be the seed for a more functional living room.  when we added that to a bit in savings, we thought we'd have enough for something decent.  we went to the couch store & realized that if we sold some stuff we could actually get our dream couch, one that we'd love & have for a long time--not just the cheapest one there (which is what we too-often do).  we held off on buying anything that night, then went home & got to work--taking pictures & posting on craigslist.  thanks to the wurlitzer for a third of it (in addition to one rocking chair, one water cooler, one office chair, one delay pedal, and, of course, bellywater press), we bought the couch, brand new, locally-made, paid in full, the very next day!
