joshy is in the final push of his latest project, lost animals, the b-sides of jacaranda (released last august). lost animals has two of my favorite songs he's ever written on it. if you know josh, you know how he can get extremely focused when it's down to the wire, so focused that he wouldn't take time to eat or sleep if he were a bachelor. so my job will be to make sure he stays hydrated (coffee doesn't count, josh!) and tastily-fed during the next couple of weeks. his personal deadline for having the songs recorded is the end of this week. then he'll spend a week mixing before he sends it off to be mastered + manufactured. we'll have it in hand in time for our west coast tour in august...i'm in the midst of filling out my OCAC application, filing for FAFSA, gathering together my portfolio.
heron is in the midst of learning the tremendously heartbreaking childhood lesson called, "i am not the center of the universe." we thought this didn't start until the Terrible Twos! we're about to run out & pick up a copy of "the strong-willed child".
there's our update. now here's a look at our family's crazy schedule, now through september 7...
june 17-20: josh finishes recording; mitchy finishes application
june 21-27: josh finishes mixes
june 28-29: leave NC for cornerstone music festival on an old pig farm in IL, stopping through west virginia to visit joel & charity, and upland, IN to pick up kari & the kids (?)
june 30-july 2: camping at cornerstone; josh plays 3 shows
july 3-4: back to muncie to visit friends!
july 5-6: drive back to NC
july 7-31: sort & pack our things, help mom with final house projects including lots of sorting!
august 1-6: drive WEST all the way to san diego. keep heron entertained for 35 hours in the car
august 7-28: tour through california + oregon, doing 10-15 shows along the way; see greg + julie! enjoy the scenery! swim in the ocean! practice surfing!
september 2: michelle starts classes at OCAC in portland
september 4-6: visit family in seattle; josh plays 2 shows
september 7-.................... : enjoy our new HOME SWEET HOME, portland!

I'm the Sarah that sent Steph here the other day, after my husband Mark sent me here. You and I met at Fred and Molly's wedding in Muncie, and when you hugged me I smelled like patchouli for hours. It was wonderful, and so were you, and so is your family. I'm glad to have found your blog.
The "terrible twos" is a lie. I'm hoping it is only the case if you don't handle all the fits they throw when they're one the right way. Of course, I don't know for sure yet. I know I'm pretty stern, and even so there seem to be lots of times when Israel has a fit as if to say, "Yeah...just checking to make sure you meant that." It gets frustrating until you realize that's how we still are with God. Kids: they're like small adults.
