josh & i both thought this westward trip would be a grand adventure, even with a toddler, but mostly it seems like we just barreled through, barely stopping to take in the sites or take many pictures along the way. i think the preceding weeks rather wore us out, and by the time we hit the road, we just wanted to get here, knowing some true rest awaited us (even if intermingled with touring)*. though josh has had three shows over the last three nights, we've been blessed by our time in the crozier's guesthouse by the ocean, and even more blessed by the fellowship we've shared with tim & gina crozier & their community. we really haven't felt this spiritually nurtured in years. & spiritual nourishment makes our souls and bodies feel rested!
* oh, and heron got the stomach flu for 12 hours, vomiting all night long, during our stay in mississippi. josh caught something similar three days later, as we drove through arizona. can you see why we just wanted to make it to california?
anyway... here are a few pictures from our trip westward.
: alabama* :

(* alabama and mississippi had the friendliest people)
: new mexico :
in van horn, new mexico, we ate at a charmingly quirky tex-mex restaurant called "chuy's" (pictured above). later, josh & i watched a beautiful sunset + lightning storm over the guadalupe mountains while heron slept. : arizona :

the road west, through the southernmost states, was HOT HOT HOT! we stopped several times a day to let heron run around & explore for an hour or so at a time. she seemed oblivious to the extreme heat & was apparently thrilled by the prospect of encountering deadly creatures! just look at that face!
(california pictures coming soon)
