heron has gotten SO active and mobile. obviously this means constant monitoring now, but what fun! she is now a professional scoocher. who needs crawling? she can scooch anywhere she wants to. mostly she wants to scooch over to the stereo, or to her mom's laptop. here she is "crawling" through the coffee table, her latest adventure.

she is also a month into eating solid food. (the picture below is obviously a "before" picture--she's quite the messy eater who LOVES to feed herself). she is of course still breastfeeding a ton, and solids are more of a daily novelty to her right now.
and while nana was gone in alabama she became an expert sitter-upper! just a week ago, on christmas day, she still needed assistance sitting up straight.

our little girl is growing up so fast--she's 7 months old already! we love her so much. nights are still a little rough with her, as she's no longer sleeping "through the night" (5 or 6 hours). but her days are so cheerful that i usually forget how sleep-deprived i am from waking up every hour or two, somehow... we do need wisdom, however, to figure out why she's all of the sudden waking up so often after sleeping so well from the beginning. maybe it's just a phase that will soon pass, but we're still wondering if there's something we can change that will help her sleep better.
speaking of sleep, it's time for heron's nap!

hello my friend. so funny! my baby boy Ezekiel was a big fan of "scootching" too. we dubbed it "the worm" in our household.
as for sleep habits...Ezekiel has been my most challenging. A great book for insight and tips is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. I would highly recommend it.

You may have already figured this out (since I'm slow getting here this week), but I'll let you in on a secret. Waking up at night after sleeping through the night without problem is normally one of two things: ear infection or teething. At my house, it is usually teething that wakes them up at night. It took me forever to figure this out with my first, especially since he was happy all day. One symptom from the pressure that growing teeth cause is restlessness. Most of my children did this. Happy as a lark until I left the room or until sleep time. They just needed the distraction of someone else in the room. If they could fall asleep without my presence, then they would at least wake in the night and need me to help them back to sleep. A good way to test this out is to give a dose of Tylenol at bedtime and see if she sleeps better.
Hope you figure it out. Every baby teaches us new lessons~ it's the joy of parenting. ;o)
oh, elle. sleep is such trouble. Wren now spends at least one section of her night calling, "mooooommmy, I neeeeed yooooouuu." She ends up in our bed sometime between 3 and 4 most nights. Last night we had Lucas in there as well, which really doesn't work in a Queen bed, "Wren! Quick kicking me." But they are so cute and snuggly. I miss night after night of long sleep but I can't trade in snuggling with my children.
I do hope she starts sleeping more for you. is is better yet?
