sunday ended two weeks of hosting.  mark & james, the friendly construction workers, returned to texas.  the day before they left we had an unexpected visitor from the UK--david erasmus.  he called josh up the day before & said he was in chicago, visiting his cousin & "kickin' it," he said, with jane goodall (seriously, who "kicks it" with jane goodall?).  he had 48 hours left in the u.s. & decided to rent a car to come meet us.  a fascinating person; a new friend.  josh & i enjoyed this unexpected visit very much.

after all the visitors were gone, josh & i enjoyed a much-needed sabbath on sunday.  for us this meant not going to church that day.  so i made a breakfast feast, just for us, of homemade cinnamon rolls, quiche with kale + goat cheese, rosemary potatoes, & fresh fruit.  sunday was honestly the most we've rested in months.  sure, we've relaxed, but real, intentional "rest" is so different, & difficult to come by.  this time the rest finally seeped down into our souls.

we ended our day of rest with the unwed sailor concert.  josh & i donned our matching gray zip-up hoodies & headed out to the indie rock show (okay, so "post-rock").  birdie absolutely loved it!   she was kicking madly, like she does when she hears any music, especially josh's.  we loved it, too.  it's always nice when you like a band more after seeing them live.  johnathan ford seemed to be a gracious & humble man, & his music once again brought me to a worshipful place, much like my memory of their 2002 show.  somehow, "post-rock" music has a way of doing this to me even more than most "worship music" does.  what is this?

& now we are in the middle of a work week, with josh racing madly towards his album recording deadline of the end of april.  i've been attending some sort of pregnancy-related appointment every day, pursuing all of the general life & business details for the two of us, & creating when i can.  today i spent several hours sitting through a diabetes education session, & will now begin checking my blood glucose levels four times a day + modifying my diet.  i don't have gestational diabetes, but i'm apparently "glucose intolerant" during pregnancy.  nothing too scary, just a little inconvenient.  my midwife says i'm going to have a very large baby (maybe ten pounds!  big bird!), so she's hoping i can reduce the birth weight a little (thus avoiding premature labor or induction, c-section, etc.) by observing a stricter diet for the next two months.  all of the appointments of this week have definitely made the upcoming birth seem more real and imminent!  we are not decorating a nursery, since we will be moving soon after the girl is born, but i have started to set up a little "nook" in our bedroom, & that is helping satisfy the nesting instincts.

this weekend we are off to JPUSA!  josh has a show, & will be leading worship at their sunday service.  we can't wait to visit with all of our friends up there!

thanks for enduring this little update with no pictures!

sounds like your pregnancy is close to mine with sol-- my midwife thought i might not have made it into the diabetic pool if i'd taken the test earlier, like i was supposed to. he ended up a 7 1/2 pounder after a strict diet... but he was big early on too. hmmm.... i ended up really appreciating the insight into food and energy, after making the transition. things like cinnamon rolls had to become a far-off dream, unfortunately, along with pad thai and other faves. but the health of the preferred diet was awesome. anyway, i'm ramblin'. love you sister...

yes, those may have been my last cinnamon rolls for two months! ah, well. if it's best for the baby, i'm in! right now i'm just on an experimental week, though, where i can eat my regular diet & check my blood to see if i really need the strict diet (my midwife modified her orders). yesterday i ate pad thai & my levels were still good! gala, i'll just call you & we can talk more about this! ;)
